After making his West End debut as Jesus in
Godspell, Anthony went on to star in many acclaimed stage productions, as diverse as Peter
Shaffer's Yonadab, Chess and The Rocky Horror Show. His career went from strength to
strength, with guest leads in many TV series throughout the late 70's and 80's including
Secret Army, Enemy at the Door, Love In a Cold Climate and Howard's Way.
No one, however, could have foreseen the
effect that one, or rather a series of commercials would have. The Gold Blend ads
transformed the face of advertising; they were iconic, and changed the way Anthony was
perceived in the UK.
Having shot a series of equally successful
"sister" ads for the US, Anthony went in search of widening his audience. His
first forays into American television were as a guest on NYPD Blue and then joint lead in
the cult Fox series, VR5.
A year later he won the role of Rupert Giles
in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, a series that would make him an international star.
Back in the UK, Anthony has been courted for a
number of projects including Manchild, the award winning Little Britain, The Invisibles,
Merlin and Free Agents while continuing to guest star in notable dramas like Spooks, New
Tricks, Persuasion and Sensitive Skin. Most recent movies include I'll Be There, Imagine
Me and You, Sparkle and Repo the Genetic Opera.
